1970
THROUGH 1993
Doug Dely became involved in graphics, advertising, and marketing on
a professional level in 1976. Prior to this time, he served in the military
with NATO forces in Greece and with the Joint Military Services and
Defense Attaché in Vietnam. After attending the Center for Creative
Studies in Detroit, Michigan, where he studied art direction and design,
Mr. Dely founded doug dely studios, a graphic arts studio.
As
time went by, he became involved in all aspects of advertising and marketing
for both retail and business-to-business clients. Notably, in the late
70's and early 80's, Doug worked throughout the Metro Detroit Area providing
small business and retail accounts with direct marketing and co-op mailing
services.
In 1985, Doug joined Creative Associates in Grosse Pointe, Michigan
as Creative and Marketing Director. In this capacity he successfully
reorganized sales and marketing departments for several companies by
developing sales and corporate communications programs, sales and training
materials, and marketing fulfillment programs. Contracts often ended
with Dely hiring sales and marketing executives to continue the various
programs he developed.
The
types of businesses served included such diverse fields as hotels, mechanical
contractors, computer manufacturers, training companies, and networking
communications. During this time, his energies, creativity, and experience
combined to create many successful programs and campaigns that consistently
met the goals of clients. Success came not only in the design and execution
of these programs, but also with the outcome of profits for his clients.
Many clients remained with Dely until his full time commitment to nationally
marketing retail telecommunications products.
1993
THROUGH 1997
Doug performed full time contract work developing the first marketing
program for mass-market prepaid phone cards. This work carried him through
several years and two phone card programs. In addition, during this
time he also completed design, and multimedia projects for a few select
clients. The following pages will touch on the various areas of his
work for this period.
TLC
- LONG-DISTANCE COMPANY
Mr. Dely began working with TLC in 1993 as a consultant and developed
a complete marketing program for the prepaid TLC PhoneCard. Full time
responsibilities included shepherding in TLC's initial distribution
system, paving the way for a distributor network including New York,
Los Angeles, Boston, Miami, and Chicago. The entire product line and
point-of-sales materials were designed and produced by Dely; who continued
to act as the product manager throughout this period.
The
concept of mass marketing prepaid phone cards with blister-style packaging
was a direct result of his efforts. This unique method of selling an
abstract service at point-of sale proved to be revolutionary, and has
become a standard packaging option in the phone card industry.
In 1995, Dely was responsible for a national sales program for the CallSanta
prepaid story card. In addition to marketing and design responsibilities,
he wrote, directed and produced a fully animated 30-second TV spot.
TLC
management became a victim of the rampant distributor fraud that plagued
the early days of the prepaid phone card industry and eventually had
to close its doors in 1997.
MILL
CREEK GROUP/CONSOLIDATED COMMUNICATIONS
Through a marketing contract awarded in 1997 to the Mill Creek Group
in Birmingham, Michigan, Dely worked full time to develop a national
prepaid calling card program. The CallAdvantage® Prepaid program
was the result of these efforts. Project scope included: product design
for three prepaid calling products; packaging design and brand management;
design of point-of-sale and collateral materials; authoring and implementation
of a distributor marketing and sales program; development of a data
base for the internal sales and order process, including inventory control;
and, distributor recruitment on a national basis using direct mail and
an interactive CD.
Consolidated
Communications is a 104-year old Midwest telephone and telecommunications
company. The CallAdvantage prepaid products were their first retail
product in all those years. Consolidated was recently acquired through
a merger with McLeod USA, which created the nation's first super regional
telecommunications company.
This
contract was completed in mid-December 1997.
1998
THROUGH 2000
During this period, Doug went back to roots and worked on graphic design
projects while concentrating on HTML, JAVA and other coding disciplines
for Web site design and layout. This time was also spent on developing
Web hosting support services.
THE
ARGUS GROUP
The Argus Group is a family of companies providing comprehensive safety,
industrial hygiene and environmental monitoring products and services
specifically designed to help companies reduce worker injuries, control
costs and increase profitability.
Doug
has worked with Argus since 1987 in a variety of capacities, from catalog
design and production to designing and constructing their training facilities
area. Most recently he has designed and produced their first full line
product catalog. This project involved both print make ready and design
for an electronic version in PDF format. The PDF format can be found
on their Web site as well as in CD form.
Having
completed the first phase of the Web site, which involved design and
implementation on their server, Dely is now redesigning the site to
provide more viable information and cross selling between the Group
members. This site has over ninety pages and encompasses information
related to the three member companies of the Argus Group. Visit their
Web site at: www.Argus-Group.com
Mr.
Dely is also developing a special site where safety information and
resources will be made available as streaming content (video and audio)
to customers on fee bases. The information will include standards, "how-to"
sections, training programs, and safety and environmental information.
The project requires extensive Java and other programming to create
a portal-style destination.
Related
to the above Web site program is a Media Center that has a training
room large enough to demo equipment and will be used for live Web broadcasting
and synchronous training. Scheduled to open in early 2002, the center
will have a complete audio/video editing suite with facilities for online
training development.
ACTIVE
LIFE SCIENCES
As a software developer and manufacturer for the prosthetic industry,
Active Life Sciences (ALS) required both marketing services and back
office systems development. Doug worked closely with ALS to integrate
their manufacturing system with their sales system. This included product
pricing strategies and distributor program development for domestic
and international sales activities.
Dely
also designed and produced marketing/sales literature and implemented
their Web site. He is actively supporting the recruitment of dealers
and distributors for the 2002 models. Visit their Web site at: www.ALSCAD.com
OMEGA
DECORATIVE CONCRETE
Omega manufactures a high quality line of decorative concrete products
marketed primarily to concrete supply dealers and applicators. Their
flagship product is the OmegaDeco Thin Stamped Overlayment System used
to cover and enhance existing concrete surfaces. The system is designed
for stamping with patterned mats that create textured surfaces such
as stone, brick, tile and wood.
Omega
needed to reintroduce their overlayment product into the US market,
and to begin sales initiatives in the International market. Doug began
the project in early 1999 by developing an e-commerce Web site targeted
to the business opportunity and the reseller markets. Omega's complete
line of products, including stamp mats, are available online for sale
to domestic and international customers.
Dely
was responsible for developing the "OmegaDeco" brand
name and logo design. He also developed the marketing strategy for domestic
dealers and for the international program. A complete sales development
model and contact tracking system was put in place.
In
addition to marketing and sales activities, Doug also developed a complete
back office system, which includes order entry, fulfillment, inventory,
procurement and billing.
Dely
is currently supporting sales initiatives through a national sales agent
program. He designed and produced all the sales support materials (agent
sales aids and customer hand outs) including an 8-minute video demonstrating
how the OmegaDeco overlayment product works. Visit their Web site at:

OTHER
PROJECTS OF INTEREST
In addition to the above projects, Doug has worked closely with the
following companies to provide marketing and design support.
ONWARD
TECHNOLOGIES INC.
This project required marketing strategies for an offshore company to
provide software and engineering services to the US market. Doug supported
these efforts by providing marketing design and Web site development
suitable for the US market. In addition to the Web site, Dely designed
a database-driven sales tracking system to support a two-pronged direct
mail program to major software companies and automotive manufacturers.
In-house personnel trained by Doug are currently managing the site.

SHELVING.COM
Shelving, Inc. is a forty-year-old company that had a small presence
on the Internet in the mid-nineties. Doug was hired through Mania Interactive
to redevelop their Web site and provide e-commerce capabilities. Web-based
marketing initiatives are ongoing. Visit their Web site at: www.Shelving.com
CURRENT
ACTIVITIES
Doug is actively consulting on projects primarily involving marketing
and design work for Web-based and interactive multimedia programs. He
is very excited to have the opportunity to work on projects requiring
the full range of his graphic, marketing and technical skills.
